Report by AME Director Mike Cheney
The Midwest Young Entrepreneurs Business Plan Contest and Class was a success last month in Kansas City.
A roomful of enthusiastic students attended a 2 1/2 hour nuts & bolts session focused on the development and implementation of a plan to improve, sustain, and grow their enterprises to the glory of God.
I asked the students to consider 13 questions including:
- Why did you pick that product or service for your business?
- Why should someone buy what you sell?
- Give a couple of examples of working IN your business versus working ON your business.
- What are the top 3 things you will do with the money you make and why?
- What are the top 3 things you have learned or are learning from running your business?
We walked through real-life, practical examples of the concepts of:
- Time management
- Personal/business appearance and image
- Great service for loyal customers
- Inexpensive or free marketing ideas
- Money management and investment
Participants submitted their business plans for the contest and we’re pleased to announce the winner! Anna Hester, the owner of DeLYEtful Soaps and Skin Care Products, took home a brand new Apple iPad II, as the winner of the contest.
All of the plans were well thought out, and if executed consistently, they will serve as road maps to the success of their various enterprises.
I was very blessed to spend time with a group of sharp and enthusiastic young entrepreneurs who already have a good grasp of the “how” and, more importantly, the “why” which guides their efforts. My thanks to all of them for giving me even more reason to be optimistic about the role of today’s young people in the service of our King. Also, thanks to their parents, who by the quality and character of their children, show their faithfulness in raising Deuteronomy 6 kids!
AME Youth Program & Business Plan Contest is coming to Denver June 16-18!
